Meet John-Samuel

Hello! My name is John-Samuel Williams, and I’m running for Congress to represent the 51st District of San Diego. I am a proud father of three — Genesis, Daphne, and Manny — and a devoted husband to my amazing wife, Wilne (pronounced WILL-NAY), whom I married five years ago. Together, we spent ten years living in South Korea, where I taught English as a second language and was deeply involved in community service. It was in South Korea where we met and built our family, and I also had the honor of serving as the Pastor of a Non-Denominational International Church for five years.

Born and raised in San Diego, I grew up on 67th Street and spent much of my life in the 51st District. I am proud of my roots — my mom is a second-generation Mexican-American, and my dad is African American, born in Alabama. Their influence and the diverse cultures of my upbringing have shaped who I am today and the values I hold dear.

Education has always been a priroty placed in me from my grandparents who grew up in the South. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Pan African Studies from California State University, Northridge, where I was also a member of the Model African Union (Model AU). Later, I earned my Master’s in Public Administration from Liberty University, equipping me with the knowledge and skills to advocate for policies that benefit our community.

In addition to my educational background and work experience, I am a lifelong San Diego Padres fan, with memories of attending games at Jack Murphy Stadium. And, of course, I’m a huge fan of Authentic Mexican food which I grew up on— the kind you can find in abundance here in San Diego.

An interesting fact about me: while living in South Korea, I had the opportunity to appear on a South Korean news show, which was a fun and unforgettable experience!

I don’t come from a wealthy background. I come from a working-class family, and to this day, I work at the airport, making $18 an hour. That’s why I am running a campaign without change — because I believe the voices of the people are more powerful than money. It is not I, the politician, it is WE, the people, who will drive the change we need.

I’m passionate about being a servant leader in my community and committed to ensuring that the voices of San Diegans have an advocate in Congress. I believe in the power of hard work, family, and community, and I am dedicated to bringing those values and integrity back to Washington.
